Tinnitus Information

Tinnitus is a condition that causes a phantom sound in the ears. It is commonly described as a ringing sound, but has also been defined as a humming, buzzing, whistling or popping. While it’s not uncommon to experience tinnitus occasionally, occurrences of chronic tinnitus can be detrimental to your health and wellbeing. Sleep deprivation, anger, depression, and anxiety are commonly reported side effects in patients suffering from tinnitus.

Causes of Tinnitus

Many causes, such as head injury, migraines, or ototoxic medications, have been linked to tinnitus. In some cases, tinnitus is set off by an underlying medical condition like Meniere’s disease or tumors. Though there are many possible triggers, Tinnitus is most commonly associated with hearing loss.

Tinnitus Treatment

Ironically, there are an abundance of causes for tinnitus, but few effective treatments. The course of treatment for tinnitus will depend on the cause. In cases where an underlying medical condition is present, treating the medical condition may result in complete recession of tinnitus. In other instances, hearing aids may be an option for treatment, especially in cases where the tinnitus is related to hearing loss. There may not be a cure for tinnitus, but it is our aim to provide the best possible treatment options to help alleviate the stress and frustration that come along with it.
